Johnny 04:42
(words by Annie Wells, music by Phil Marshall) Johnny lives in a high-rise box in the sky With lots of beer bottles piled high Bed bugs walked away with his bed Now he’s got no place to lay his head When the sun goes down I will look for you In the pale blue moonlit night When the sun goes down I will sing for you It’s the best that I can do Every social worker in town Tried to talk Johnny down But Johnny won’t listen to you ‘Cause Johnny do what he wanna do When the sun goes down I will look for you In the pale blue moonlit night When the sun goes down I will sing for you It’s the best that I can do Johnny lived in a high rise box in the sky With lots of beer bottles piled high Bed bugs walked away with his bed Then he had no place to lay his head When the sun goes down I looked for you In the pale blue moonlit night When the sun goes down I sang for you It was the best that I could do

Trains 04:42
When I’m crying We go for a drive Until I can close my eyes We sing along to the radio As it plays so soft and low Sleep my baby I’ll keep you safe From this mean old world I know someday someone may Break your heart I will always be near to catch each tear To catch each tear Sometimes we drive To the crossing Just to watch the trains go sailing by Trains make music Make me happy Make me sleepy so I can close my eyes Sleep my baby I’ll keep you safe From this mean old world I know someday someone may Break your heart I will always be near to catch each tear To catch each tear Sleep my baby I’ll keep you safe From this mean old world I know someday someone may Break your heart I will always be near to catch each tear To catch each tear To catch each tear

I took a walk through a strawberry field My heart was heavy and my blues hadn’t healed My temperature rose and my jukebox blew a fuse Don’t ever think that there is nothing left to lose My head was rockin’ and my memory reeled The gates were opened and my fate was revealed I’ll spend eternity walking in your shoes Don’t ever think that there is nothing left to lose Don’t even think about it You cannot do without it You think you’re above all that? I doubt it? I was nowhere, man, with nothing to shield No saliva and my blood had congealed I didn’t come here to mistreat or to abuse Don’t ever think that there is nothing left to lose

Miss Lonely Hearts believes in love She dreams of love Sets the table for two Raises her glass to the air Imagines what he would do If he were there And the lovely things he’d say Miss Lonely Hearts will find Happiness someday Miss Lonely Hearts Beware of love Don’t let that man manhandle you A pill box hat and white glove In the rear window view Upstairs a man hides behind A cruel cigar in the dark His silence speaks his evil mind A window frames the glowing spark Miss Lonely Hearts believe in love Listen to the melody Coming from the window above A love song in a major key Upstairs a man plays the song By himself in the dark It’s been there for you along A window frames the glowing spark Miss Lonely Hearts believes in love She dreams of love Sets the table for two Raises her glass to the air Imagines what he would do If he were there And the lovely things he’d say Miss Lonely Hearts will find Happiness someday

Peter Piper met a viper Rollin’ joints like Cuban cigars He had a wife that knew him Only too well So he placed her and kept her In a pumpkin shell Home Sweet Home The house that Jack built Out of pure guilt Stands on the hill ‘Neath the shade of the tree There’s room enough For all seven dwarfs But a fear there is not enough Head room for me Home Sweet Home A crooked man built A crooked house and Into his home he brought his Blushing crooked bride She loved a frog once Who courted her once With blunderbuss and rapier By his side Home Sweet Home

How did you know? That was our song All those years ago When we were young A melody That stops me cold And brings me back to life As I grow old That we were best of friends Was plain to see And throughout all our lives You were there with me The song remains After you’ve gone You’re in that melody Where you’ll live on

I can’t remember your name But I love you just the same Someday the words will come back to me Like an old song From long ago You will come back to me On a summer night Like my memory Of the northern lights From long ago There’s a special place in heaven For a kind heart And I know in heaven Nothing will keep us apart I will come back to you On a whispered prayer When your’re feeling blue I’ll be there

When I go out at night I don’t give boys a glance One thing can lead to another And I just won’t take that chance I fought off some big temptations Slipped out of some sticky situations And here’s the reason why I’m never gonna hurt the boy I love I’m never gonna hurt the boy I love So if you’re thinking of my fingers up And down your spine Get that thought right out of your mind When he asks me where I’ve been I won’t have to tell a lie When he asks me who I’ve seen I won’t have to blink an eye You best believe every word is true And I know he feels the same way too And here’s the reason why I’m never gonna hurt the boy I love I’m never gonna hurt the boy I love When he asks me where I’ve been I won’t have to tell a lie When he asks me who I’ve seen I won’t have to blink an eye You best believe every word is true And I know he feels the same way too And here’s the reason why I’m never gonna hurt the boy I love I’m never gonna hurt the boy I love I’m never gonna hurt the boy I love

Down here on earth away up above you While there’s a different view Heaven is where somebody loves you Someone who waits for you Oh, first cup of joe I’m still movin’ slow I know what comes next I’ve seen the video Coffee with cream oh life is a dream Like smoke from a candle that swirls to the eye beam Everything moves like you’d expect it The trek from conception to birth Maybe you’re gone But it won’t be long Before you make your way back down to earth

Heroin and people Once in a while A car ride up the coast Heroin and people These are the things I love the most Heroin and people Once in awhile a sunny, sunny hearse Sunny days and lightning I don’t know which one Scares me the most Heroin and people Father, Son, the Holy Ghost Heroin and people I don’t know which one scares me the most

about

On her most recent record, “Lonely Hearts Club”, Wells features a song about the Hitchcock character, Miss Lonely Hearts, a touching sub-plot about a woman seeking love in the movie “Rear Window”. Her efforts to connect having failed and in despair, Miss Lonely Hearts nearly swallows a bottle of pills, until she hears a beautiful song from a window above written by a lonely man. In the end, they are together.

“Music saved Miss Lonely Hearts, music saves me, always”, Wells says.

about

Annie Wells Rochester, New York

“Wells’ evocative piano accompaniment complements perfectly her reflective lyrics and expressive singing. She’s got a warm breathy delivery and she’s able to move easily from full deep notes to delicate ethereal highs. Her voice is amazing.”
